Will Heywood

Professor at Arizona State University

William Heywood is a Clinical Professor and Director of the PhD Program at the Herberger Institute of Design and Arts, and has recently been appointed as Assistant Director of the Design School at Arizona State University.

Dr. Heywood co-teaches the Applied Research Collaborative, a transdisciplinary design graduate thesis studio recognized with the NCARB 2008 prize for collaborative excellence. His teaching focuses on emotional intelligence development and design thinking skills.

With a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a BFA in Photography/Design, Dr. Heywood's expertise includes Positive Psychology, Reichian Bodywork, Craniosacral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, and Jungian Depth Psychology.

Apart from his academic roles, Dr. Heywood is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice and a co-founder and president of RIA (Redefining-Innovation-Agency) and Wisdom of the Heart, consulting firms specializing in human dynamics across educational institutions, corporations, family-owned businesses, and individuals.

Dr. Heywood has also extended his services to work with athletes aiming for elite competition levels. He has collaborated with various athletes, from junior to Olympic levels, contributing to their success in achieving berths on All-American and National Teams. He has been commended by Arizona State University for his work with student athletes.

Additionally, Dr. Heywood has engaged in sports psychology by lecturing at USRowing National Team selection camps and coaching the US Junior Women's National Sculling team for the World Championships over the past five summers.
