Interesting article on #coal.
Wonder why #China leads in rare earth elements, graphite, polysilicon, and battery cathode materials processing?
Lower emissions standards, low(er) labor costs and employment practices, low cost electrical generation (due mostly to baseload on coal-fired units) and recognition that coal yields liquids and petrochemicals, carbon (for steel, synthetic graphite and polysilicon), Btu value...and of course #ree that is enmeshed into the coal. China consumes 2 billion tons per year. University of North Dakota has confirmed higher concentrations of rare earth elements in lignite coals.
Why does the US outsource all of these raw material inputs and finished goods for #energytransition and #energyaddition needs?
