It was wonderful to be able to host such an amazing event last night on the power of 'Creativity & Content' with our partners at Adobe, our 2023 Next Generation CMO cohort and so many clients, colleagues and friends.

A big thank you to our speakers and panelists for all their insights:

👉 Dan Bennett Ogilvy Behavioural Science Leader on the complexity of the brain and how it's impossible to predict what messaging is going to work best (test everything, small things make a big difference, and really make sure you understand your audience - don't just rely on what they tell you!) 👉 Simon Morris Adobe EMEA CMO, sharing his perspectives on what it takes to be a great CMO (passionate storytelling, driving and evidencing growth, representing the customer and being kind), how Adobe puts genuine purpose behind everything it does and how Adobe enables individuals and organisations to unlock creativity at scale 👉 Andy Sandoz Global Creative Director at Deloitte Digital on the power of creativity and how we should pivot to talking about business purpose rather then just brand purpose and be patient, letting small ideas evolve into big ideas 👉 Annie Gallimore MD of our creative agency ACNE who hosted the panel discussion masterfully, adding insight from her experience as a CMO, of running creative agencies and of enabling impactful creative with technology

We covered some big issues such as purpose, sustainability, disinformation and the impact of AI, and some more light-hearted ones such as which orientation of a mailer is most effective (portait, by 17%) and flying glasses into space!

A big thank you as always to the team Alex Sweet Isabel Beddows (née Pickard) Kathryn Stokes and our friends from Adobe Rylan Phi-Long Holey Nauria Khan

Great to talk to Marketing Week about our Deloitte CMO Insights research on how to become and be a successful #CMO, contrasting the views of CMOs with Senior Marketing Executives. We cover a lot of ground from the skills which are needed, the relationships, experience, personality traits and of course, GenAI. A few stats to whet your appetite:

👉 Senior marketers spend 70% of their time work with people from functions outside Marketing (68% if you're a Senior Marketing Exec and 72% if you're a CMO) 👉 40% of senior marketers lack a formal marketing qualification (35% for SMEs vs 46% for CMOs) 👉 Over half (58%) of the CMOs and senior marketing leaders (64%) surveyed say making the right connections and forging networks was the biggest challenge they experienced en route to their current role 👉 75% of CMOs and SMEs say that different working patterns (remote or flexible working) is one of the biggest changes to their roles over the past five years. 70% who say their role becoming more data-driven as the biggest change 👉 21% are 'not at all' ready for GenAI with only 7% 'extremely' ready
