Wolfgang Fengler is a distinguished Lead Economist at The World Bank, spearheading initiatives in Southern Africa, including countries like South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Namibia.

His renowned expertise in big data analytics led to the creation of population.io and worldpoverty.io, earning him accolades such as being labeled a 'big data virtuoso' by the German publication DER SPIEGEL.

With almost two decades of experience at the World Bank, Wolfgang has held various key positions across different continents, starting at the headquarters in Washington DC, then in Asia and Africa before settling in Europe at the hub in Vienna.

Wolfgang Fengler has a strong academic background, holding a Master's degree from Universität Augsburg and a PhD in Political Economy from Universität Hamburg.
