Highlights
It was a pleasure heading down to the The Business Show Asia with Jedidiah Siah to represent Living Theories! We had a great time meeting great teams, listening to insights about the business world, and getting to meet great founders and CEOs of different companies!
Here are 3 cores we picked up from the entire experience:
-
Balancing Heart and Work It's important to understand that your employees aren't there PURELY for the money. They need to find that the workplace is a space that they feel they belong to, where they are heard, appreciated and recognized. Companies that provide this space will find that with happier and more comfortable workers comes a positive work culture that accelerates growth.

Being #adaptable and #flexible Thanks to Petteri Murto, we got good insights into understanding what being flexible and adaptable means as a leadership team, especially when teams can stretch all across the region. With an ever-shifting and uncertain global outlook, the best thing we can train our teams to do is to face unpredictability and change well, to emerge stronger and more competent.

I quite appreciated this year's National Day Rally by PM Lawrence Wong. I think in this year, compared to many a previous year, PM Wong highlighted things that were front and center of what we all have been feeling for the past decade:
Progress comes at a price.
Ambition comes at a price of falling birth rates; with prosperity comes rising housing prices and cost of goods; with academic excellence comes elitism and centralized academic institutions.
The policies set in place are clear: putting the People first is the mandate for the coming year. Policies this time seem to be geared towards helping the people heal, and helping them regain footing in an increasingly pressurized world.
As a business owner, I can imagine that a combined 7.5 months of parental leave is extremely detrimental and disruptive to my workflow; as a citizen, I am thrilled for the country, and am prepared to work around it.
I get the feeling that the government is now prepared to loosen the reins and work with people to help them chart their own paths, and not just the narrative. The NDR on Sunday focused on helping groups left behind find their footing, and their place in society: Singles, middle-aged workers, Arts students and practitioners.
I'm hopeful that PM Wong's tenure becomes more people centric, and focused on helping individuals find their expertise, using that as a base to build the new Singapore Narrative.
But we have to do our part. We have to rid ourselves of the cynicism, the sarcasm, and the overdependency on the government to chart our own destinies. We have to be responsible for our communities, tolerant of our neighbors, and back to being good kampung members. I see a lot of posts online lament the end of the golden era, without realizing that the people themselves have left the values of the golden era as well.
The NDR fills me with hope, and gives me the feeling that in the coming years, we'll see a lot of positive change in society. I'm looking forward to being a Singaporean in this shifting new era of Singapore.
