Highlights
It was a great pleasure to join the timely discussion on Trust-based Philanthropy last week at the AVPN Global Conference 2024. Among speakers Caroline McLaughlin, Neera Nundy, Pamela Alexander, Sarah Jeffery, we explored what does successful trust-based relationships between funders and grantees look like in generating more impactful outcomes on the ground, as well as some of the challenges, lessons and implications.
At Citi Foundation, we believe a trust-based approach to grant-making is key to helping non-profit organizations strengthen their operations and realize maximum impact in their role as drivers of community change - the ability for non-profit organizations to continue to serve communities efficiently, scale sustainably and maximize their impact in the future depends on investing in their own financial health today. I also referenced some insights from Citi’s Philanthropy and the Global Economy series and the latest edition featuring Perspectives on the Future of Giving.
I also had the great privilege of opening an empowering session on harnessing youth solutions to accelerate innovation and impact through collaboration. With deep experience and inspiring examples from Jayanthi A Pushkaran, Kathleeya Richard, Monica Oudang and Sunbin Cho, we all came away reenergized with the power of youth and more intentional in integrating youth voices and greater inclusion of the most vulnerable in our programming.
Two years ago, Citi Foundation collaborated with AVPN to launch the Asian Youth for Impact Platform with an objective to position youth front and center to drive impactful solutions to some of the biggest challenges they face. It’s based on our learning and belief that young people are not merely beneficiaries of development outcomes, but they must be empowered as solutionists and innovators to bring solutions to the table.
This program was part of Citi Foundation's Pathways to Progress initiative, which has invested more than $300 million globally in workforce preparation and entrepreneurship since 2014. 10 years is not a short time and we’ve learned many lessons in our journey – not only from our over 250 partners around the world but also directly from youth themselves - which are summarized in our Pathways to Progress: Impact Report.
At the end of the session, we also launched a Toolkit for Corporates: Enhancing Youth Engagement, which laid out some innovative and meaningful practices to accelerate youth innovations in corporate environments.
Thanks and big congrats to Naina Subberwal Batra and the AVPN team on your relentless effort in building the largest social investor ecosystem in Asia and globally. The ever-growing and a record breaking 1,500 impact agents attending the conference is a true testament to your vision of collaboration and impact.
