Coming to the Powell Street Festival this weekend? On Saturday, Aug 3, I have the honor of participating in a script reading of "Dr. Nishitaki," written by Vivien Nishi. Come see the fellow JC actors read and share your feedback.

August 3, 2024 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm Vancouver Japanese Language School

Dr Nishitaki (western waterfall) tells the story of a young idealist doctor growing up in pre-war Vancouver and the political events that shift his life path. It’s about lives interrupted – it’s about us. Come join our community thespians, storytellers and history buffs for a reading of this script and share your comments and critiques.

The host will read out the actions and descriptions. The actors will read out a character’s dialogue. After each scene, there will be time for open feedback in the room. The session will be recorded for reference.

Excited to be working with ECAH on their East West Mural Festival - we are looking for artists with a Japanese background to create a mural on a sea can in Esquimalt Gorge Park!
👇 👇 👇 👇 Call for Artists and Muralists! We’re inviting artists and muralists with Japanese backgrounds to apply to design and/or execute a mural at Esquimalt Gorge Park as part of our 2024 East West Mural Fest! The Context: The Esquimalt Gorge Park is the historic site of Canada’s first Japanese tea garden, opened in 1907 by Hayato Takata and Yoshijoro Kishida. The gardens and tea house were destroyed in WWII, when thousands of Japanese Canadians in BC were uprooted from their homes and forced into internment camps. Three generations later, the Takata family worked with the Township of Esquimalt and the broader Japanese Canadian community to create a Japanese garden and pavilion on the historic tea house grounds. The Call: ECAH is seeking artists and muralists of Japanese background to design and/or execute a mural on a seacan located on the Gorge Park grounds. Artists have the option to apply to design the mural (to be painted by a hired contractor) or to design and paint the mural themselves. Artists are invited to consider the site’s geographical location, history, and cultural context as design inspiration. Total Budget:

  • Design Only: $1,000
  • Design & Mural Painting: $4,500 Application Deadline: Aug 2, 2024 Mural Creation: Aug 18 - Sept 2, 2024 Check out our website at www.ecah.ca/mural-festival for the full call and details on how to apply! #yyj #victoriabc #esquimalt #callforartists #japanese #japanesecanadianartist #nikkei #visualart #murals
