I finally did it! I made my first long form Youtube video. These things take a lot of effort! I swear for every good take I had a dozen or more that went off the rails 😂

Good content takes a lot of effort. Especially when you are educating your audience on something nuanced. But it's totally worth it. I've learned so much over the years from people who were willing to put in the time.

If you are a long form content creator... you have my newly renewed respect 🫡

If you are budget curious... I'd love to hear your feedback on this step by step guide!

The Olympics will always hold a special place in my heart.

During the 2012 London Olympics I worked for the Olympic Broadcasting Services.

I was initially stationed at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland where we broadcasted the women's soccer events. Our's was the venue that accidentally showed the South Korean flag for the North Korean women's team resulting in them almost not playing! (Wasn't my doing, promise!)

For those that aren't familiar there is (largely) one broadcasting team that pipes content to the various outlets around the world. It makes a lot more sense to approach it this way than for every country to set up their own cameras!

In the final week of the games I was transferred to the main stadium in London where I got to watch Usain Bolt run. My job in the main stadium was to "pull convergence" for the 3D cameras. Back in 2012 3D TVs were starting to gain in popularity and the Olympics sent 3D video feed across the world.

3D cameras work a bit like human vision. Just like we have two eyes these cameras have two lenses. To focus on something closer these lenses need to "cross their eyes" a bit more and vice versa for something farther away.

I got to sit in the production trailer and adjust these "eyes" back and forth as the camera tracked high jumpers running towards the pit.

Working with a crew from around the world was an amazing experience.

This year I get to share the #Olympics with my two sons who are already bouncing over our couches to do "gymnastics." Warms my heart to pass down this love to them. Go #TeamUSA!
