Highlights
Yesterday evening I had the privilege of playing at my grandfather's funeral.
As I sat listening to my aunts, uncles, and father share about his life, two things fell heavy on me in that room:
- The courage to fight for opportunity is at the core of my grandfather's legacy.
After Fidel Castros rise to power in the early 50s, my grandfather had the courage to dream bigger for his family, his future family, and generations to come.
He had the courage to escape Cuba on a small boat and embark on a 90-mile journey leading him to the States. Without guidance, without much of a plan, with storms of uncertainty, but most importantly, hope.
There were many events along the way that could have stopped him in his tracks, but his work ethic and grit (and potentially an ounce or two of stubbornness) led him to his destination.
- The impact of one opportunity goes deeper than you think
Though I knew my abuelos story growing up, I didn’t think much of it or understand the weight of it. Today, seeing the depth of his impact was powerful. His story trickled down and impacted numerous families, friends, and co-workers, and he couldn’t help but spread more opportunities to those around him.
Great opportunity demands great risk, which is part of my DNA because of him.
Though his passing saddens me, I'm driven to make the most of the opportunities I’ve inherited, press through fear and turmoil, take risk head-on, push for betterment, and pay homage to the man who risked everything to grant it to me.
Hasta que nos volvamos a encontrar, abuelo.
I’m happy to share that I've accepted the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) role at Fifth Wheel Freight!
From the start of my career, I’ve always believed that people are organizations' most important asset and I couldn’t be more excited to come alongside an awesome team at FWF. Together we celebrate where FWF has been and the accomplishments we've had while casting a vision for a really bright future.
I am excited for the days, weeks, and months ahead at FWF. The opportunity to get to know each individual, play to their strengths, and unlock potential is why we exist, and I wake up each day excited to see what's next.
