Zena Bibler

Zena Bibler is a dancer, researcher, and educator specializing in critical dance studies, performance studies, and choreography. She earned her Ph.D. from the Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance at UCLA, where she also served as a Distinguished Teaching Fellow. Her research explores dance as a relational practice to foster collaboration and sensitivity across differences. She shares her work through live performances, scholarly writing, and participatory workshops, with her projects featured in venues worldwide, including the U.S., Poland, the Netherlands, Egypt, and Brazil.12

Bibler's dissertation and current book project, "Attention Matters: Political Choreographies of Noticing in U.S. American Experimental Dance," examines attention as a choreographic tool in both dance and everyday contexts. Her educational approach integrates critical movement with critical thinking, earning her recognition for equitable teaching practices.12

She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa's Department of Dance.12
