Highlights
🍰Can we have our cake and eat it? I'm a firm believer that we can. Neighbourly‘s mission is to prove that businesses can do well by doing the right thing: reducing environmental impact whilst creating social value.
♻️BUT circular economy systems must encourage and enable donation of surplus food and products to communities that are most in need - without barriers such as VAT or antiquated /ambiguous rules.
🧑💻We need Steve Reed Environment Secretary and Nature Minister, with responsibilities for circular economy Mary Creagh CBE MP help to do this.
Already hundreds of thousands of dedicated volunteers and organisations are distributing surplus food and products across the UK (and Gordon Brown’s #Multibank project is a great example). At a time when over 4 million UK households are going without essentials, taking advantage of existing support to divert surplus resources to areas of need is a no brainer.
With joined-up thinking between #waste reduction, #environmental and #social goals, and changes to two policy areas which are currently limiting wider-scale redistribution, short-term and significant positive impacts can be generated...
