There are many people from my time at the University of Waterloo who have provided friendship, guidance and a kind listening ear. This post is about three of those people and the gratitude I have.

  1. Pictured below at the latest Rosie's Roadshow event is Allyson Hewitt. Allyson was my professor for my Corporate Social Responsibility Course. She was the first person who made me really consider social enterprise as a business model and how businesses could be built differently. When I think of the triple bottom line, B Corp. businesses and tying in impact into each strategic move you make, I think of Allyson.

  2. Doug Beynon has been a constant touch point in my journey since entering the MBET program. He was one of the first people who challenged me directly in a way that helped me to grow. When he asked our Masters of Business class "Who in this room is an entrepreneur?" on the first day of class, I was the only one who didn't raise their hand. Every time I regroup with Doug, I think of that Zoe, 23 years old, who didn't think I had it in me to do big bold things.

  3. Doug Beynon was an incredible leader in our program, and he led me to Rosemary Smith, who became a mentor, and more importantly, a friend. She was someone who spoke to me outside of class time at great coffee shops around Waterloo and even when a few years pass, when we reconnect, the kinship is clear! Rosemary is a force and she is someone who I felt an immediate connection with. She has been cheering me on all these years.

Through Rosie's Roadshow, I have been blown away by the people who have shown up to support Amy A. and I. I left teaching and did my Masters degree over 10 years ago, and it delights me to reflect on Zoe then and Zoe now.
