Would this #layoff season (the most brutal one of this century so far) influence tech-#people to be more frugal in dealing with finances OR would induce FOMO further to make ‘em more indulgent?

The rise of #emi everything in last decade or so, has made layoffs much more difficult to deal with. What do you think?

#documentation can make a difference. 2012 - At #symantec, my assignment was: framework to convert English-like sentences into automated tests. I pushed myself hard to give it comprehensive coverage. Also, made it possible to use python alongwith cpp. But the performance review was underwhelming. Primary concern - abysmal usage. Users (larger dev team) complained all the time about how to use it.    I reached out to our users. The framework was an internal solution. Most engineers didn't want to spend any effort learning something that was exclusive. Our 4 member small team initiated office-hours but hardly anyone would turn up. Our users (smart engineers) felt bad having same/ similar queries time and again.   As an experiment, I started a secret project - to document the framework in tutorial format. After long hours and few revisions over 3 weeks- the documentation got complete. I did not wait for a meeting- uploaded to team-wiki and sent an email- named: Let's Act. My manager was somewhat angry about working on it without his consent. It was extraneous work.   But in two months, everything changed. Usage grew manifold. Regression timelines reduced. People would say - oh, it's (the framework) easy. My friends at Symantec bear witness to the impact the documentation made. For me, I got promoted mid-cycle.   2017 - Few years after leaving Symantec, I met some friends at a party. When I got introduced to a newer Symantec-employee, he said - "I know your name, you're the one who created - Let's Act". It surprised me - satisfying-ly.   So, my personal experience says - documentation can make a difference. What is your documentation story? #experience
