We’ve met with numerous founders and engineers building in Web3 and they’ve all had to spend a lot of time and money to build their initial data infrastructure. We built Hyperline to be a shortcut for these teams so that they can develop their products more efficiently.

As someone who has built data platforms before, I wanted to share what I’ve seen as the three main costs you MUST consider before building a new data platform.

1️⃣ Initial Build Out 🛠 : Between research, design, and implementation, we know that organizations usually devote 2-3 engineers for ~6 months to build out a data platform. In the U.S., the average Data Engineer Salary is $300k, meaning you need to spend at least $600k just to get off the ground. Larger organizations with complex requirements typically spend millions of dollars just getting something off the ground.

2️⃣ Recurring Maintenance Costs 👷‍♀️: Building a data platform is not one-and-done like all software. Organizations must spend tens of thousands of dollars per year on data, tens of thousands on cloud costs, and most of all, labor costs to pay for SRE and Data Engineers who need to maintain and scale the system.

3️⃣ Opportunity Cost 📈: Perhaps the biggest – but least quantifiable cost – that organizations face is one of time. Investing in non-core product features takes the focus away from the core of your product.

At Hyperline, we’re biased but we think that using a platform like Hyperline can effectively remove your initial build out, make your recurring costs more in line with the value you’re getting from your data platform, and ultimately give your team back time so that they can focus on the highest impact projects.

If you’re building in the Web3 space, what do you think?

Web3 has the tech, but it’s missing something big - good consumer experiences.

During my early days at Lyft, I saw first-hand how data scientists and engineers used data to improve the product experience – from efficient pickup routes for Lyft Line, to fraud prevention, and to pricing & matching algorithms to optimize the marketplace.

Think about your everyday experience – from product and movie recommendations on Amazon and Netflix to curated playlists on Spotify – leading apps deliver value to you through data and algorithms.

So while I believe in the technological innovations of Web3, without user-friendly and intuitive consumer applications, it risks remaining a niche.

How do we fix this?

By building a new layer of intelligence into the next wave of Web3 apps. We’ve spoken to AI/ML engineers and data scientists and the feedback is unanimous—they need better tools to build data-driven solutions that go beyond Web3’s read/write/own core primitives.

The status quo needs to change, and fast. That is why we are building Hyperline.

Hyperline aims to reduce the cost and time of building intelligence into Web3 products, and give data scientists and AI/ML engineers the power to innovate beyond infrastructure bottlenecks.

This isn’t just theory—we're actively helping Web3 organizations build things like reputation ranking systems for wallets, DeFi yield optimization algorithms, and recommendation systems for a decentralized social network.

I’m personally excited to help data scientists and AI/ML engineers bring their superpowers to Web3, so if you’re working in this world and are interested in learning more – get in touch! We are onboarding a limited number of organizations to Hyperline’s private beta.
