This morning, I finally changed the lightbulbs for a lamp, which embarrassingly has been on my mind/“I’ll do it later” mental list for the past 3 months. I know some of you must be asking “Wow – where did you find the strength to end your procrastination, Ada!?”
I received this book, "Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness" by Ingrid Fetell Lee, in the mail from ed hewett last week and started reading it over the weekend. The book starts by asking some self-exploratory questions. I'll drop some here: ⭐ How often do you laugh? ⭐ When was the last time you felt a true, unfettered moment of joy? ⭐ What emotions do you feel when you walk into your home at the end of the day? How about when you enter each room? ⭐ How highly does your significant other or family value joy? ⭐ Who are the most joyful people in your life? How often do you see them? ⭐ How often do you find joy in your work? Do you work for a company that is pro-joy, joy-neutral, or anti-joy? How appropriate is it to laugh out loud at your workplace? ⭐ What activities bring you the most joy? How often do you engage in them? Can you do them at or near your home?
Changing the lightbulbs took me less than a minute, but I immediately felt better about the outlook of my day and week.
☝ I challenge you to do one thing that brings you joy every day, whether it’s making yourself a coffee, taking a morning walk, or phoning a friend. I’m excited to apply what I learn about joy from the book to my everyday life.
Have a joyful week! 🙌
I just finished my first week with Hilton! 🌟 This is an important moment in my career journey because it marks my first week back in hospitality after a decade, as well as the 6-month milestone of my entrepreneurship venture.
Most of you met me after I pivoted my career to advertising and retail. Some of you may know that I studied hospitality and tourism management in college. The art of personalization and scale, the balance between globalization and localization, and the ability to create unforgettable memories have always fascinated me. Over the past few months, I’ve had time to reflect, and today marks my return to my first professional passion (never forget your first!).
Among all the hotel brands, there are so many things about Hilton that excite and inspire me. It's the #1 World's Best Workplace. In addition to the accommodations and attention to detail that Hilton properties offer, the DoubleTree by Hilton chocolate chip cookies 🍪 are a personal favorite. Everyone I interacted with at Hilton, whether as a guest, a candidate, or an employee, truly embodied hospitality and went above and beyond to make me feel valued. Hilton is filled with talented, kind, and entrepreneurial folks from whom I can't wait to learn and work alongside. Oh, have I mentioned it’s the #1 World’s Best Workplace?
Before I dive too deep into this next adventure, I need to express my immense gratitude to all the folks in my network, especially the former Wayfair-ians, who have acted as mentors, sounding boards, and friends over the past few months. There are promising opportunities in today's job market, but they can be hard to find and secure. These past few months have given me a tremendous amount of gratitude and perspective. I'm forever grateful for all the support I received, and I'm here for anyone who might need an extra ear (or brain cell) as they plot their next steps.
Anyway, I’ve got to get back to reading my new hire documents. I’m saving my entrepreneurial project for another day. I’m so excited to be working alongside Daniela Wegmann and team to develop and shape our analytics data product offerings within Hilton. I can't wait to dive in and bring you along on my journey! 🚀
