Adam Croom
Cognitive Scientist and Visiting Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University
Meet Adam Croom, an experienced higher education professional with over a decade of expertise in digital learning initiatives. As the Director of the Office of Digital Learning at the University of Oklahoma, Adam has led a team of instructional designers, instructional technologists, and media specialists in developing and implementing a variety of successful online programs ranging from MOOCs to fully-online graduate programs.
In addition to his leadership role in digital learning, Adam is also an Assistant Professor of Advertising in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches advanced advertising classes that cover the history, process, strategy, and issues surrounding the advertising industry.
Adam's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, with an emphasis in Advertising, from the University of Oklahoma, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University.
Prior to joining the University of Oklahoma, Adam held various roles in marketing and PR, including Coordinator for Marketing and PR for Economic Development and Leasing and Marketing Manager at Paradigm Properties.
Overall, Adam's vast experience in digital learning initiatives and his passion for teaching make him a valuable asset to the University of Oklahoma and the higher education community.

I’m excited to share that this month I transitioned into a new role as Senior Vice President of Academic Innovation for OU Education Services.
OUES is a new not for profit created to manage and grow online learning at the University of Oklahoma. The goal is straightforward: improve OU’s capabilities to increase accessibility to higher education.
The best part of the move? I was able to make the move alongside my longtime team, the OU Office of Digital Learning, along with many other colleagues from OU Online. ODL is now simply OUES. At the moment, much of our efforts are focused on setting and laying the foundation of the organization all while continuing to work with OU’s Colleges to support new and existing online programs. At the right time, I have more to share about our work as OUES as it is at the forefront of what we believe to be the future of education.

A bit of a career update: this semester will be my last on faculty. The way the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication has shaped me over the past two decades is hard to put in to words, and I’m just thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to pay it forward to the next generation of Gaylord College students.
Being on faculty has been one of the most intellectually and emotionally challenging professional experiences, and yet I’ve loved every second I’ve had in the classroom. If you would have told me 15 years ago when I graduated from OU, that I would end up staying in Oklahoma, much less teaching, I would have laughed. Conversely, I’ve decided to grow where I’ve been planted, and that’s led me to teaching 52 classes and 1,912 students. It’s also taken more all over the world. From navigating the bustling streets of New York taking students to the world’s leading ad agencies to study abroad programs in Tuscany, I’ve witnessed our students learn anywhere we could gather.
I anticipate that I’ll find my way back in the building at some point in the future, but my career has pulled me in a new direction (more on that later) and this change requires me to exit from faculty. Perhaps this a “see ya later,” and less of a “good bye,” but even so thank you to my colleagues, staff members, and the members of the College’s leadership who gave an eager and excited grad like me the runway to chase a dream and make an impact.
To my former students, thank you for your willingness to allow me to play even a small role in your academic journey. I’ll hold tight to the memories of our time together.
