Have you heard of PESO? It's a go-to for me.
The PESO model, which stands for Paid, Earned, Shared, and Owned media, is a strategic framework widely used in marketing to create comprehensive and effective communication plans.
It provides a structured, overlapping approach to integrate various types of media, ensuring that a brand or organisation's message is consistently delivered across multiple channels.
The PESO model is particularly powerful when applied through a holistic marketing approach, which emphasises the integration of all marketing activities to create a unified experience for consumers.
💰 Paid media refers to the channels where a brand pays to distribute its content or advertising. This includes traditional forms like television, radio, and print ads, as well as digital channels like social media ads, pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns, and sponsored content. Paid media allows brands to reach a broad audience quickly and is particularly effective for driving immediate awareness and traffic.
🗣️ Earned media is the coverage or exposure a brand gains organically through word-of-mouth, public relations efforts, or favourable media mentions. This type of media is often seen as more credible by consumers because it is not directly controlled by the brand.
📲 Shared media is content that is created and spread by the audience itself, typically via social media. Shared media is powerful because it leverages the reach and influence of the audience, often leading to viral marketing effects.
💻 Owned media refers to the content and channels that a brand fully controls, such as its website, blogs, email newsletters, and mobile apps. This type of media allows brands to craft and deliver their message without external influences, providing a stable platform for long-term brand building.
Using a holistic mix of these areas means that consistent messaging is used across all channels and touchpoints. This consistency helps to reinforce the brand’s identity, values, and promises in the minds of consumers. When all channels are aligned, the brand appears more reliable and trustworthy, which is essential for building long-term audience relationships and maximising impact.
Also, the repurposing (one of my FAVOURITE words, anyone else?) of content across channels is efficient and effective, time and time again.
