A great start to MAD//FEST- met some great people and saw some interesting talks, caught up with a load of friends and colleagues and ended the day with a (short) strategy session in the Golden Hart. There are rumours of a repeat today at 3.30....

Pete Markey, CMO of Boots in conversation with some great points coming across - your future is not written and Boots can still evolve all the while that the brand has the attitude of “Wow, Boots” rather than “Good old Boots”. More so it was good to hear our belief at #Pashn being said on stage - the traditional media channels fuel the digital, our internal figures echo his observation. Talk to us about how we execute this!

I went onto watch the talk on Humans Fight Back - #AI isn’t coming to take all our jobs, it’s there to help as an assistant, and is a long way from being able to match the tone of voice of brands and people. Often AI also seems to think that hands have 6 fingers - all the while this is the case, we’re safe. Was re-introduced to the #DunningKrueger effect : a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities. It was explained on stage with a little more colour - crossing this with the Google effect where people retain less information now, for the creative services if you rely solely on AI, you’ll get beige. Always going to need a human wrap around / filter

And lets not forget that people buy from people.

What? So What? Now What. AI can help with the first question, the development comes from humans

Loved the talk from Liquid Death - How the Wrong can be Right… Its a simple proposition really, but one that seems to have just sneaked the brand into being everywhere : if you want to disrupt a sector that is quite homogenised, look completely different. Make the water look like beer - run the marketing through festivals, make it look Rock and Roll rather than the rest of the category and use humour. Im pretty sure that MAD//FEST attendess are all now advocates for the brand! We also love the idea of stitch the parachute on the way down. “Screw it, let’s do it”

Death to plastic indeed.

And what would the event be without watching a panel hosted by Julia Linehan? Great to see equality being taken seriously for women in sales, but much more work needed at senior levels.

..And finally watching NBCUniversal using one of our campaigns for Candivore / #matchmasters as an example of great advertsing. Thankyou!
