The Art of Debate. Am back on the UK’s GB News this weekend in my role as a Social Commentator panellist – a position I’ve undertaken every month or so for 18 months now, along with regular separate interviews.
The topics, current and international affairs we discuss, or I have spoken on, are vast and wide, but the key point is that all sides of an issue, left/right/top/bottom/north/south/up/down and more, are presented, aired and debated - an increasingly rare occurrence in the legacy media today and a rapidly disappearing skill in today’s all too often labelling, dismissed, ‘offence’ or, at times, cancelled society.
Amongst the more numerous broadcasters, journalists, political correspondents and others, I’m invited on from my work as a leadership coach & mentor, a human development devotee, and a campaigner for several contemporary world issues. I aim to speak from a big picture, critical thinking, questioning, objective focussed, and impact / consequence / trade-offs minded perspective that is oblivious to partisan positions. And always bring in the mantra that every person, stance, position, idea, standpoint, concept and more is at least 10% correct – a mantra that makes one, firstly, actually listen (a difficult skill for many!) and, secondly, find areas one can agree and build upon. Two skills that many conflicts in relationships, business, society and the world today could well utilise…
