To be successful you only need two things.
- Right time
- Right place
When we started AfterWork Ventures in 2017 - we were definitely in the right place at the right time. The Australian startup ecosystem was starting to hit its stride, and we were able to invest very small amounts of money into some fantastic companies. That happy coincidence has been obvious to me for some time.
On further reflection, LinkedIn on August 21 2020 was also the right time and the right place, because Jessy Wu 'slode' into my DMs.
I'm forever grateful that she did, because it was the first step in a journey that led to Jessy joining our community, running our community, becoming a Principal, and now a Partner at Afterwork.
Thank you Jessy. There are too many ways in which you have driven the success of Afterwork to name in a single LinkedIn post (and I know you would correct me for writing something too long that will be punished by the LinkedIn algorithm).
Ultimately, this feels like a formality because you are, and always have been, our Partner in building this thing. But we are so delighted to share it with everyone else too.
