Success Starts With My Morning M.A.G.I.C.

Several years ago I came up with a ONE-HOUR Morning Routine called, 𝓜𝔂 𝓜𝓸𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓜𝓪𝓰𝓲𝓬, MMM, to keep me focused daily.

This routine, if followed, will help you live a conscious life, a life designed by you instead of reacting to life's events.

𝓜𝔂 𝓜𝓸𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓜𝓪𝓰𝓲𝓬 is very simple n here's how it works:

M = MINDFUL MEDIATION - 10 min A = ACTIVE - move that body - 20 min G = GRATITUDE - 10 min I = INSPIRATION - read, listen, write, journal - 15 min C = CHOOSE ONE thing to complete today, work at it until done, then move to next task - 5 min

You can also habit stack and increase the time on any part of MMM, e.g. When working out, I plug in and listen to an audiobook or Podcast, therefore, I can increase my mediation time (M) and habit stack (A + I).

Once the hour is up, shower, get dressed for work, eat b'fast or if you're doing Intermittent Fasting, start by drinking 1/2 fresh squeezed lemon, pinch of Himalayan salt n warm water -->> drink with a straw coz lemon will wear down your teeth.

/* And that's the END of this simple morning routine, which is responsible for a life well lived. */

Please share your morning routine -- you'll inspire others toward their mindset journey.

What's Google’s “Monkey & Pedestal” Hack? 🐒

“Problems are bigger in our minds than they are in reality.” — ZAK

Ever felt stuck on a problem, spinning your wheels and can’t seem to solve it?

Here’s why that happens: We usually start with the easiest things we know well, or things we can physically see, however, that’s often not the best approach. Our minds look for the quickest solution in order not to tax our thinking brain, the Prefrontal Cortex, PFC, as our brain takes ~ 20% energy.

The “Monkey and Pedestal” mental model, introduced by Astro Teller, CEO of X, explains that big problems have a fundamental challenge — the “monkey.”

If you don’t know your monkey, you’re wasting your time.

Problem: Imagine you want to teach a monkey how to sing Rumi’s Poems while standing on a pedestal.

What’s your first move?

You might think, “Build the pedestal!” That’s the easy, satisfying thing you can think of, or the physical thing you can see as the solution — but wait!

There’s no point building a pedestal if you can’t teach the monkey how to sing Rumi’s Poems, right?

The monkey represent addressing the root cause of the problem, while surrounded by distractions, pedestal.

If you don’t solve for the monkey, nothing else matters.

Often, we busy ourselves solving for easy solutions we can immediately see, the tangible — the physical parts (pedestal).

It’s crucial to take time to analyze the problem into its different parts and ask which part is most important to solve first. Once you’ve tackled the monkey, the other parts will fall into place.

So how do you find your monkey?

Sometimes, we’re so overwhelmed that we don’t stop to think about what the real issue is. Since our brain demands 20% energy, it’s easier for the brain to kick into the path of least energy consumption, that is, pick a quick solution that’s easy to see, n easy to focus on, however, we end up focusing on the wrong solution.

Step back, take a deep breath, be the observer and ask:

“What’s my monkey?”

Google X relies on the Monkey and Pedestal Mental Model to tackle ambitious projects.

Before starting, they ask:

“What’s the monkey here?”

If they can’t solve the monkey, the project is canned.

To find your monkey, ask:

“If I solved this problem, what major change got me there?”

The monkey is the bottleneck you overcame.
