Highlights
Company values are equal parts practical and aspirational. They are a reflection of who you are today. They also serve as a cultural compass, pointing you in the direction you’re moving as a company.
One value we’ve had from the beginning is “Do the right thing, not the easy thing.”
An example of this playing out:
Vendelux recently went through a fast season of hiring. We had big roles to fill. This was the first time since founding the company that I mostly left early interviews to other team members.
I went from being the main interviewer to only the final interviewer.
In the early days of this hiring season, a lot of good—not great—candidates made their way to final interviews.
When I spoke to team members about this, it was clear that we all viewed these candidates as only good, not great. It was just easier to pass competent people through to the next interview than to turn them down.
I get it.
Most people do not want to be responsible for ending a candidate's chances. But these are the sort of situations that make company values so vital.
Do the right thing, not the easy thing.
We talked through this as a company. If you can’t picture the person working next to you, then don’t pass them through to the next interview.
The team rallied around this. Hiring became simpler and clearer. And I believe the team as a whole is motivated and stronger for it.

The first rule of conference success is networking begins in advance.
If you wait to book meetings and talk to leads until the day you show up, then you’re late. You’ve already missed your biggest opportunities.
Here’s how the best sales teams do it:
💼 Choose events based on your CRM 💼 Follow your customers, not your competitors.
When your best customers go to conferences, which ones are they attending? Show up in the same room.
📞 Talk to leads in advance 📞 Vendelux tells you which leads and customers will attend certain events.
So, email them in advance and invite them to a happy hour or one-on-one meeting.
📌 Make competitors irrelevant 📌 Competitors will use Google to determine which events to attend.
They’re relying on chance, not data, to attend events. Don’t interrupt them while they’re making that mistake.
A data-driven approach to events is the better path.
Create demand in advance. Choose events based on customer attendance. Book meetings ahead of time. That’s how the pros do it.
