Alex Smith is an industry leader in energy storage and power conversion systems with a background in high performance teams, cross-functional leadership, hiring, and expertise in battery cell selection, sourcing, advanced manufacturing, consulting, battery module design, interconnection technologies, laser welding, thermal system design, and various materials like thermal interface, adhesives, foams, intumescent, and phase change materials, as well as fire barriers and safety.

His skills include high voltage component selection, pack design, enclosure material selection, power electronics, dc-dc converters, dc fast charging, onboard and wireless charging, battery swap technology, charging profiles, life cycle analysis, second life applications, and knowledge of international regulations in China, Europe, and North America particularly in electrical vehicle high voltage architectures.

Alex Smith's expertise extends to technology roadmaps, various cell chemistries such as NMC, NCA, LTO, LFP, lithium metal, and solid state, along with different cell formats like cylindrical, pouch, and prismatic. He has experience in 48V Mild Hybrids, 12V systems, PHEV, BEV, autonomous vehicles, buses, boats, grid-storage, aircraft, off-road vehicles, and materials handling including lift trucks.

He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Fuel Cells and Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies from Kettering University. Additionally, he participated in a Study Abroad Program at Fachhochschule Ulm - Hochschule für Technik, and a program at Y Combinator.

In his career, Alex Smith has served as the Co-Founder and CTO at Moxion Power Co., and held positions such as Sr. Engineering Manager at NIO, Engineering Manager at LG Chem Power, Inc., Lead Systems Engineer at Xalt Energy (formerly Dow Kokam MI LLC), and Senior Applications Engineer at Flux Power. He also gained experience in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at various organizations including ISE Corporation, Tempo Textron, Poway Transmissions, and AAMCO Transmissions.
