One of the biggest misconceptions I hear from entrepreneurs who have been working directly with individual clients or hosting their own masterminds and groups is, “I don’t have the background to work with corporate clients.”
I just finished hosting a mastermind for consultants looking to grow their impact and revenue through corporate engagements, and in a few days, I'll host another.
While I have worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies over nearly two decades in business, when I booked my first big organizational keynote, I had only worked in the nonprofit sector and as an adjunct professor.
Most of my first coaching clients were struggling arts educators and fellow nonprofit employees.
However, when I set my attention to working as a speaker, coach, and trainer in Corporate America, within two years, I had worked with close to 20 different companies.
We do ourselves and potential organizational clients (who could benefit from working with us!) a terrible disservice when we discount ourselves due to our backgrounds.
Some of my greatest speaking and coaching have happened inside of companies where I held little technical or industry experience, but I understood the problem a specific team or group of people had. And I used my skills to help them solve it.
Rather than asking if we or our backgrounds are relevant to particular companies, instead, we want to be asking—
“What are the problems I am really good at solving, and what kinds of companies possess those problems?”
I’ve supported clinical psychologists, engineers, financial experts, teachers, physical therapists, attorneys, dietitians, sales reps, and stay-at-home parents who have all found lucrative and meaningful work as coaches, consultants, speakers, and trainers inside of companies.
And if this is something you desire, let's connect, as I'd love to help!
