As the kiddos make their way back to school, I’m reminded of this fun school supply drive event I hosted recently.
This was the first event I’ve hosted out of the country and I had a wonderful time connecting with our friends to the North in Vancouver, Canada. (And yes I did same exploring after my event 🥰)
Everyone was asked to share what this volunteer activity meant to them and I was so moved by the responses. I remember growing up and receiving a backpack and school supplies from my church. Not only did those resources help my family financially, but they also gave me the fresh start I needed so I wouldn’t be behind my peers on the first day of school.
As a kid, there’s nothing worse than having your teacher ask everyone to take out their spiral bound notebooks and label them with their black marker and all you have are the remains of a notebook from last year and a couple legal pads and pens to get you started.
If you have the means to donate, consider giving to a local organization’s school supply drive. Your support could be exactly what a child needs to start their school year off right! 💖

Spearheaded by then Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 and passed in 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.”
The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women and not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward FULL equality.
This year’s theme is “Women Who Advocate For Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion”. Women from every background have long realized an uneven playing field will never bring equality or justice. For a positive future we must eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from institutions and our lives. ✊🏾
