Amy Maguire

Amy Maguire is a doctoral candidate in the PhD Rehabilitation Sciences program at MGH Institute of Health Professions.2 She is working under the mentorship of Dr. Christodoulou in the BEAM Lab, focusing on research related to reading skills in children who have undergone hemispherectomy.12

As part of her research, Maguire has played a key role in a groundbreaking study examining reading abilities in children who have had half of their brain removed. She served as the primary interface between families, conference organizers, and researchers from MIT and MGH IHP, conducted one-on-one testing sessions with participants, and attended brain scans to ensure continuity of care.1

Maguire's unique background as a speech-language pathologist in neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital has prepared her well for this research. Her work is expected to contribute to a series of studies that will provide insights into reading outcomes and associated brain structure and function post-hemispherectomy.1
