May is an important month -- it’s both Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and Celiac Disease Awareness Month. Severe food allergies and celiac disease affect hundreds of millions of people around the world -- it puts lives at risk and takes a huge social, emotional and physical toll.
But there is hope on the horizon; we are at an incredible moment in time where innovation is bringing us closer to solutions and relief.
At Ukko, the mission to make food safer, healthier and more accessible to all is personal to us. While the ground we’re breaking with science is enormously exciting, it’s really the people we can help that energizes our team every day. They’re our why.
To honor this #awareness month, to emphasize the hope and, importantly, to highlight patient perspectives, we spent time talking about the effects of celiac disease and food allergies with experts like Lisa Gable, CEO of FARE; our advisors: Dr. Edwin Kim, an immunologist at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Director of #UNC Food Allergy Initiative; Prof. Raanan Shamir, Chairman of the Institute of Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Liver Diseases at Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel; and our patient council members: Jamison Vulopas, an allergy sufferer and author; and Jennifer Iscol, President of the Celiac Community Foundation of Northern California about these issues. You can read more about these conversations and recent innovations on our blog (https://lnkd.in/deq7u3P).
In addition I also spent time speaking with my friend and fellow food allergy entrepreneur Nurry Hong about our work to eradicate food allergies as part of FARE’s Food Allergy Awareness Week events, watch our conversation about Ukko and beyond below..
Food allergy and sensitivity touch all of our lives. Let's use this month to remember that we can all be part of the effort to make the world safer and more accessible for everyone.
We’d love for you to follow us on our journey.
