Highlights
Hello Portland!
The PICA Time Based Arts is back! And with a vengeance.
This year’s festival will features dozens of performances, workshops, happy hours and happenings over three long weekends, September 5th-22nd.
If you're not familiar it's really one of the best times to be creatively inspired and rewire your brain. Think experimental operas, music, storytelling, dance and work that defies categorization and even description.
It can be a lot to navigate so I’m going to be hosting a short Zoom call this coming Tuesday during lunch for friends and folks in the creative community.
I’ll give a quick 101 on PICA and TBA to get folks up to speed.
If you’re already hip to how awesome the festival is I’ll talk about 4-5 specific performances I’m super excited about that I think you’ll dig too. Shout out to Erin Boberg Doughton and Kristan Kennedy for curation and coaching
Why me? I serve on the board and have been a PICA artist and audience member for going on 20 years. And I'd love to be a bridge for more folks to get inspired and be part of this awesome event.
If you’d like a personal invite for 12:30pm next Tuesday - DM me or comment and I’ll send you an invite.
Andrew here. I have a tracker on my portfolio website. My most visited project has over 18,000 views. Safe to say I've had around 20k total visits. Wow.
Let’s just say half were from students or friends. And 10,000 views were from prospective clients.
Let’s just say every client looks at my site 5 times before they decide to reach out about a project.
That’s 2000 projects I was potentially being considered for.
I have not gotten offered anywhere near 2000 projects. Maybe 200 over the past nine years of freelancing.
It's a reminder that you’ll never know how many people visit your website, decide you aren’t quite the right fit, and never tell you they aren’t going to hire you. Or more importantly why they aren't going to hire you.
Mt. Freelance doesn’t have a monopoly on portfolio advice. But Aaron and I have some that’s really good, actionable and grounded in giving hundreds of portfolio reviews and (speaking for myself) reviewing thousands of portfolios for the WK12 program.

It’s only $19, and you can deduct it as a business expense. So after taxes you’ll only be paying like $12.75. Unless you’re a billionaire. In which case do, even pay taxes? And how does that make you feel about yourself?
