Highlights
This is gonna be one of those mix of personal/professional posts. But hey, I’m rolling with it.

Today I spoke at #SmartCon2023 about AvaCloud and man, it felt great to do this again. I’ve always enjoyed public speaking and performance, even as an introvert. The artist side takes over when I’m in front of a group. I feel at ease sharing whatever I’m up there to share. This particular moment isn’t significant so much for the content or the setting as it is for the journey it took to get back onto the stage. I used to perform or present a lot. It was just days before COVID-19 sent the world into isolation that I was speaking to a room of automotive professionals in Warsaw, Poland. After that, I continued to present frequently over that Zoom thing. Then Covid hit me personally near the end of 2020, and it hit me HARD. It shut me down for a long while. I’m still navigating ongoing physical symptoms and the mental impact of having a body that doesn’t feel like your own any longer. The next time I did get in front of a room of people was January 2022. I had the pleasure of marrying a pair of friends. Despite the joy of that, standing up there was not easy. I was overweight, aching, ears ringing, and suffering short-term memory lapses (like mini-blackouts while being entirely conscious) - during the ceremony that I was actively officiating! I was desperately out of breath and fatigued from even the slightest bit of activity. But here I was today. I’m down over 30 lbs, close to my typical healthy weight. I still ache everywhere, and my ears still ring, but I made it through my talk with a clarity I hadn’t felt in years. I wasn’t as out of breath or fatigued. I still needed a nap not long after, but I’ve had enough energy to be active again and not in bed for hours after simply making a meal. I’ve posted here before about the challenges of my journey with #LongCovid, but not enough about the progress made lately.
I’m sure I could wrap this up with some forced business metaphor but all I’ll say is that if you are facing tough times in your career, your personal life, or both, first of all, don’t give up. Progress over perfection. And second, celebrate the wins as they come, as big or small as they may seem. Thanks for reading. See you out there again.
Great day at the Avalanche House Seoul at Korea Blockchain Week with AvaCloud.
Max Lawrence, Nick Mussallem, and the entire team put mountains of work into bringing this product to market, and it’s a significant achievement worth reflecting on.
I spent the day watching eyes grow wide as we showed people how to get a customized blockchain up and running in under 5 minutes with just a few clicks.
I’ve been fortunate to work on some major projects in music and now tech and this one feels special. There’s a palpable energy building - especially here in Asia - and I’m again fortunate to be a part of bringing this to life.
Up next: TOKEN2049 and Forrester B2B APAC.
