🍕The International Pizza Expo was hands-down best conference that we've attended at FIRST Delivery. Here are the 6 takeaways 🤔 :

  1. 📊 Pizza Restaurants doing their own delivery is table-stakes. Why? It prevents customer churn.

Delivery is over 50% of a pizza shop’s sales. They cannot afford to have customers churn —> internal drivers give pizzeria’s more control, visibility, and creates shared alignment for the restaurant and their drivers.

  1. 🤯 Pizza POS is not dominated by Toast, in fact less than 10% of the independent restaurants we spoke with..use Toast.

Companies like The Point of Sale Cloud Slice, Thrive POS , Rezku Restaurant Point of Sale, Precision POS, LLC, InTouchPOS® by ASSAL Corporation, and SpeedLine Solutions Inc have all built products designed to meet the Pizza “Particulars” - owners shared with us that Toast fails to have the features that pizzerias need (half and half toppings, in-house driver dispatch, etc).

  1. 🚗 Pizza Shops are using their own drivers to deliver orders from DoorDash, Grubhub, and UberEats orders.

You heard that right, you order on DoorDash, and the pizzeria uses their own drivers…3rd Party Order, 1st Party Delivery

  1. 🤖 Pizza Shops are hands-down, the most tech-savvy restaurants.

They understand tech, delivery, & automation better than any other restaurant cuisine or chain we have met. From robotic lines from Pizza Group USA and the Pizzabot by The Middleby Corporation … to the dough tosser from @ inside

  1. 🎯 Staffing delivery drivers is tough, so pizza shops are using DoorDash Drive for overflow when drivers call out / get too busy

  2. 🎒  #1 pain point with using 3rd Party delivery companies is NOT the commissions or cost of delivery, it’s the lack of delivery bags.

In fact, pizza shops are willing to pay MORE if they know that 3rd Party drivers will have a pizza bag.

Thank You for throwing a great conference and having us Emerald!
