Against the backdrop of L'Oréal's acquisition of a 10% stake in Galderma and Crown Laboratories, Inc. acquisition of Revance, I am grateful to Rachel Brown and Beauty Independent for inviting me to contribute to ‘𝘕𝘰 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘪𝘥 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴’ on one of my favorite topics: The Medicalization of Beauty and the growing convergence of skincare and aesthetics.

𝗞𝗲𝘆–𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:  • Consumers no longer view beauty and healthcare as separate, blurring the lines between different categories, creating opportunities for those ready to innovate and seize the opportunity in this next frontier of the beauty economy.

• In the battle for share of the wallet, aesthetics has rapidly become traditional
beauty's most significant competitor as consumers demand science-backed,     efficacious and personalized beauty experiences that deliver immediate and transformative results.

• The American Medical Spa Association and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Consulting Group valued the global aesthetics market at $21 billion in 2023, forecast to exceed $30 billion by 2028.

• Penetration rates for injectables, medical devices, and professional skincare are below 10%, and innovation will continue to fuel consumer adoption, especially amongst younger consumers and men.

• The Great Recession, the pandemic, and the recent period of high inflation have demonstrated that the aesthetics category is resilient and sticky.

• With this attractive investment landscape, companies and investors will continue to flock to these under-penetrated, high-growth, high-margin, resilient performance beauty categories.
