Andrew Truman

Project Leader at John Innes Centre

Andrew Truman is a Group Leader in the Department of Molecular Microbiology at the John Innes Centre and a co-founder of PfBio Ltd.45 His research group focuses on the biosynthesis of natural products with potent biological activities, many of which have medicinal and agricultural applications, including antibiotics, antifungals, and anti-cancer agents.1 He obtained an MSci in Chemistry from Imperial College London and a PhD.5 He is also a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the John Innes Centre. Interested Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Scientists are welcome to make informal inquiries to join his group.1

Truman's research interests include understanding the biosynthesis of molecules to inform the discovery of new natural products with clinically-promising activities, such as antibiotics active towards multidrug-resistant bacteria or new anti-cancer agents.1 His group's research is focused on interrelated research areas.1 His work is highly cited in the field of natural products and biosynthesis.2 Some of his selected publications include:

  • "Understanding the biosynthesis, metabolic regulation, and anti-phytopathogen activity of 3,7-dihydroxytropolone in Pseudomonas spp"1
  • "Pan-genome analysis identifies intersecting roles for Pseudomonas specialized metabolites in potato pathogen inhibition"1
  • "Understanding thioamitide biosynthesis using pathway engineering and untargeted metabolomics"1
