Andrew Wolk

Andrew Wolk is the Founder and CEO of Root Cause, a nonprofit consulting firm he established in 2004. His work focuses on leveraging resources to help individuals and families achieve lifelong success across various stages of life, including education, workforce development, and aging. Over his career spanning more than two decades, Wolk has collaborated with numerous foundations, nonprofits, public school districts, corporations, and government agencies to drive collective action and improve outcomes in sectors such as early childhood education and poverty alleviation.12

Wolk's commitment to social entrepreneurship led him to create and incubate two independent nonprofits: the Social Innovation Forum, which connects community-based nonprofits with funders, and Interise, which provides technical assistance to existing community businesses. He has also founded a social impact consulting firm called Impact Catalysts.14

Disillusioned by the limited progress seen despite substantial investments in the nonprofit sector—often referred to as the "Nonprofit Industrial Complex"—Wolk launched a blog and podcast titled "Finding Common Purpose." This platform aims to explore critical questions about the effectiveness and goals of nonprofit work.15

Wolk's insights have positioned him as a leading thinker in social entrepreneurship, where he continues to advocate for strategies that yield meaningful societal improvements.23
