Highlights

May 24 · linkedin

I find it fascinating that a team that works steadily and the most cross-functionally around a company's culture, consistently excels with limited resources in terms of budget, headcount, and leadership buy-in.

It's refreshing to see Epoch recognize that #EmployeeExperience deserves its own dedicated space, as showcased in #EpochConnect 2024, which saw over 200 attendees, doubling its reach from the previous year. The 2-day event provided a platform to share best practices and insights from various industry experts.

The inspirational words shared by the speakers at the event also resonated deeply with me, emphasizing the importance of connection, ownership, creating safe learning environments, and championing businesses amidst challenges.

A special shout-out of gratitude to industry leaders: Vijay Pendakur, Ph.D., Eric Shen, Dawon Hawkins, Mohit Jiwnani, Max Mullen, Shaina P., Bethany Goad, Ashley Frabasilio, Jamil Mitchell, Jamie Edwards, Emily Day, and Molly Sands, PhD for driving meaningful dialogues, along with massive kudos to Jade Choy, Keith Choy 🏳️‍🌈 and their team for their impactful work! 💪🏽💥

To all who directly shared their wisdom, humor, and kindness with me those 2 days; thank you for the enriching interactions! ❤️

And as I continue my #OpenToWork global search in #WorkplaceOperations and #EmployeeExperience, I look forward to connecting (+ working!) with you, soon! 😊🙏🏽

📯 Hi LinkedIn Community!

It's been about a month since I was impacted by the most recent #rif at RingCentral, so I hope you'll indulge my most recent reflections:

🔮 Zeitgeist:

  • This feels like an unprecedented unemployment environment; candidates with decades of experience & leadership are mixed in with folks mid-career, along with more entry-level people, which makes an already competitive job market a more grueling uphill workout.
  • Take-away: ramp-up the self-assurance that my life's work of connecting people with places & community building all lend to my diverse professional experiences, which make me uniquely qualified!

☎ Referrals:

  • Yes, while this continues to be 'the name of the game', job recs now are getting filled at light-speed rates & referrals aren't always able to respond before roles close (or are already inundated with more daily requests than ever).
  • Take-away: don't give up on networking & I do cold-apply if needed, but follow-up with a DM anyway; if I don't ask the answer's already no!

🔄 RTO Trends:

  • Until leadership gets a true read on (+then communicates out) its in-office culture, collaboration & team-building needs, any RTO policy lands simply as a suggestion, and not a remarkable vehicle to be leveraged for more impactful connections.
  • Take-away: employee engagement / culture building aren't one-and-done efforts & continue being company-wide responsibilities, but the drumbeat needs to be a data-driven call-to-action from top-down to yield the most immediate & effective results!

🍃 Energy Management:

  • Adhering to a schedule to bookend: job applications, networking, continued education & learnings has been immensely helpful for me.
  • Take-away: my worries & stressors, while absolutely valid & human responses, don't get the privilege of added airtime beyond what I intentionally allocate for them!

💟 Kindness & Compassion:

  • I bumped into my neighbor down the hall this morning; she heard 2mins of my search struggles, and by the time I returned from the laundry room had taped this note & job rec on my door (a tiny branch of hope I wasn't remotely expecting).
  • Take-away: stay open to the delight of surprising connections - the glimmers, whether in people or daily reminders are out there!

💫 Patience, Persistence & Perspective:

  • Some days are harder to motivate; world heartbreak continues at an alarming high, friends are navigating their own battles, so on those days I redirect energy towards life admin/projects, or simply lean into the call to rest, recuperate & try again tomorrow.
  • Take-away: life's continual ebbs/ flows continue to surprise, humble & inspire me. 'This too shall pass' always will steady me onward to my next adventures and discoveries!

Speaking of next adventures..!

  • I am #OpenToWork seeking #remote + #hybrid roles in: #WorkplaceOperations #ProgramManagement #ProjectManagement #EmployeeExperience #EmployeeEngagement

And as always: know that I appreciate you being in my corner! 😊🙏🏾
