Last month, we had our first ThinkSys Supper Club and it was an incredible success. We had some incredible CTOs from several $100M+ companies share their insights and challenges on running large engineering teams.

Coming off that high, we’re very excited to announce our second dinner, to be hosted in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 25th!

This last week, I was invited to judge at LA Hacks. As always, I was blown away by the energy and passion of the students. What these students managed to put together in just a weekend is absolutely incredible. Hackathon culture is something else, and I miss it a hell of a lot since my UCSB days.

The theme of the weekend was 100% AI. With Fetch.ai and Google Gemini as sponsors, students tested the limits and their creativity with what’s achievable with AI.

Some highlights:

ViSign - a project to provide live subtitles from Sign Language during video calls. They used a combination of MediaPipe, Gemini, and a custom model to translate sign language in live video to subtitles.

AdaptEd / OpenNote - These were two projects finding innovative ways to use GenerativeAI and agents to develop custom slideshows and lectures for individual students on any topic, based on their style/needs.

SoundScape - A team that used Generative Audio models from Meta to build custom soundscapes based on deep location data, to give you an AI Generated soundtrack to your day.

Thank you to Justin Brezhnev ✍️✡️🇺🇦🇺🇸 and the Hacker Fund team for inviting me to judge, and huge congratulations to the LA Hacks team for putting on an incredible event.
