⭐️We Need Dreams⭐️
Utopian philosophy eventually, after a few centuries, turned into Marx’ vision of a socialist world. This is where utopia, as a philosophy, lost its momentum.
As capitalistic societies prevailed, utopian thinking was discarded together with communistic regimes. Locking both concepts together as one and the same.
That was unfortunate, as thinking in utopian ways does not necessarily have to imply the building of a new utopian nation all together. Let alone a communist one.
Kevin Kelly (co-founder of Wired) coined ‘protopian thinking’. A more mature version of the classic utopian approach. He suggests that we need utopian points on the horizon to guide our (collective) processes to a better future.
A utopian vision then merely becomes a tool to guide us forwards. Beacons, points on the horizons, stars to navigate on. These visions can cover anything from the smallest idea to the largest industry.
WeNeedDreams.com is a non profit initiative that aids the visualization of such visions. We want to help visionaries bring their dreams to life so we can all benefit from them.
After all if we do not dare to dream of new (systemic) solutions that could work as well, then how will we ever arrive at one?

Finally WeNeedDreams.com is live!
Over the last two years a group of dear friends have been working on this passion project where we visualize scenarios in which wicked problems can be solved. Utopian scenarios simply don’t seem so sexy as dystopian ones, and we want to change that.
If we want to get to different outcomes, then surely our imagination is the only place to start from. So, let’s give ourselves the permission to dream in scenarios where all will be alright.
This is not naïve, even if the dream is perhaps not the perfect solution. Because if we allow ourselves to dream in such ways, the chances of finding solutions or points on the horizon that work for all of all of us, infinitely improve.
Our first dream is called Conservation Rental, a short inspiration piece about renting the parts of nature that you love. It will make your day a little brighter, I promise.
