Arpit Tiwari, PhD

Expert in Electromagnetic Simulation and Optimization

Arpit Tiwari, PhD, is a Staff Engineer specializing in electromagnetic simulation and optimization at Rivian, where he has been working since March 2022. He has a strong academic background, having earned a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, followed by a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His doctoral research focused on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multiphase flow systems, and high-performance computing. Notably, he developed a numerical scheme for simulating compressible multiphase flows and performed significant simulations related to cavitation, which have implications in biomedical applications.

In addition to his engineering role, Tiwari is actively involved in professional communities, serving as a member of various technical committees for organizations such as the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). His contributions to the field have been recognized through awards and invitations to speak at international conferences.1

[*** Only for current University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students ***] Rivian has an excellent internship opportunity (Fall 2024 & Spring 2025) at the University of Illinois Research Park. The intern would assist in developing computational methods for physics-based simulations. The project(s) will primarily focus on one or more of the following: 2D/3D numerical analysis, meta-modeling, data analysis, machine learning, and optimization. These projects require a strong background in mathematical analysis, scientific computing, algorithm development, programming, statistical methods, and finite-element analysis (electromagnetics, structural, and thermo-fluids). The candidate must be currently pursuing a Ph.D. at U of I. Khwaja Rahman
