What a fun group of Girls* on Ice Switzerland instructors I had the pleasure to work with! Thank you for your dedication to mentoring young women to pursue a career in natural sciences.
Girls on Ice Switzerland organizes multi-day expeditions in the Swiss Alps, led by volunteer instructors from fields like geography, geology, glaciology, engineering, or chemistry.
Research shows that many girls are interested in science and the outdoors at an early age, but drift away as they grow older. Girls on Ice expeditions for high-school girls motivate them to pursue their passions in science and outdoor activities.
To prepare this summer’s expeditions, the instructors met for a weekend of learning, exchange, empowerment, and self-reflection.
I had the great pleasure to lead them, together with Sophie Woodward, through an afternoon of candid conversations on #inclusion or exclusion at work, on how to be inclusive ourselves, and how #unconsciousbias and #stereotypes influence many of our decisions.
