Barbara Leigh

Co-Founder, Milwaukee Public Theatre

Barbara Leigh is a seasoned Mime, Clown, and Theatre artist with extensive experience and a background in teaching. Following a life-altering accident in 1987, she utilized her artistic skills to navigate through challenges and explore themes of healing, disability, and diversity.

Barbara has been actively involved in various projects such as THE SURVIVAL REVIVAL REVUE!, a One-Woman Musical Comedy focused on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and TAP The POTENTIAL, which showcases performances by artists with disabilities. Alongside Karen Stobbe, she has crafted workshops and performances addressing Alzheimer's Disease, trauma, and the struggles encountered by caregivers.

Demonstrating her versatility, Barbara actively participates in productions like UNCLOTHED, the Naked Truth; Stories of Sexual Abuse and Healing. She also engages in socially and environmentally relevant works, including The All-City People's Parade and Pageant, Camp We-Kan-Tak-It, Winter Voices, and the upcoming musical One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Treasure centered around recycling.

With a rich history in arts education spanning back to 1975, Barbara has conducted numerous workshops and collaborative performances for a wide range of clients. As the Artistic/Producing Director of Milwaukee Public Theatre (MPT), she leads diverse initiatives and spearheads innovative projects.

Barbara's educational background includes Ph.D. studies in French & Theatre at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also pursued a Ph.D. in French Theatre. Her past roles encompass Co-Founder and Founder Emeritus of Milwaukee Public Theatre, along with positions such as Acting Instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Associate Artistic Director at Wisconsin Mime Theatre.

Known for her expertise in Macromedia Director, theatre, and educational workshops, Barbara Leigh continues to leave a significant impact on the arts and cultural landscape.
