Say It Now! The Power of Gratitude in Business.
In the rush to achieve our goals, it's easy to forget those who helped us get there. I recently met Walter Green, who reminded me of the importance of expressing gratitude through his “Say it Now” movement.
In business, our success is rarely a solo effort. Colleagues, mentors, and partners play a vital role in shaping our journey. At a recent retreat, we asked participants to record gratitude videos, and the impact was profound—relationships deepened, and people felt truly valued.
As leaders, let’s create a culture where we openly acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of others. A simple thank you can strengthen connections and motivate those around us.
Who has helped you along your path? Take a moment today to let them know.

Ten years ago, I faced an unexpected turning point in my life.
As the founder and CEO of a thriving company in Atlanta, I had it all: the title, the house, the car, and a happy family. But with success came trade-offs – a powerful board, diluted ownership, and a growing loss of control. My company had grown beyond me, and eventually, I was forced out of the business I had built from the ground up.
This was a devastating blow, and I had to confront the fear of letting go and the challenge of redefining my identity. With support from friends, I realized my self-worth was not tied to the CEO title. So, I took a summer off to travel with my family and rediscover what mattered most. During our journey, a question from a respected life coach resonated deeply: “How many summers remain before your youngest child leaves for college?” For us, it was ten – a stark reminder of how quickly time passes.
That realization led us to Boulder, Colorado, a place that promised adventure and growth. We sold half of our possessions and embraced a new life. It was a bold move that taught me invaluable lessons: let go, get uncomfortable, and seize the day.
Now, a decade later, I reflect on that pivotal choice with pure gratitude. Today we dropped our son (our youngest) off at college, and my wife and I will be entering a new chapter as empty nesters – "free birds" ready for the next adventure. This journey has not only shaped my life but also my family’s, reinforcing the importance of embracing change and living fully.
If you find yourself at a crossroads, don't fear the unknown. Embrace it. Step outside your comfort zone, explore new possibilities, and create a life you love! The best adventures await those who dare to take the leap.
