Recently, I’ve been reflecting on what it means to Dive Deep – an Amazon Leadership Principle that underscores the importance of staying connected to the details. But this doesn’t mean staying in the weeds and losing sight of the bigger picture. In fact, diving deep is critical to solving problems at scale, because it enables us to uncover ground truths that address issues at their root cause, and ensure they don’t reoccur in the future.
I had the opportunity to see this at play when some of the team and I visited Zoox's headquarters in Foster City, CA. Zoox, an Amazon subsidiary since 2020, is pioneering the future of mobility with its innovative approach to robotaxis. The Zoox team is gearing up to make the first vehicles publicly available soon, and diving deep is at the core of their work as they prepare for this milestone. With safety the priority, it’s critical that the team is continuously testing the product, staying close to the details in the data, and then applying their findings to the product to create the highest standard for customers. It was an educational experience, and I loved getting to witness our Leadership Principles at play.
