Highlights
This article by Ryan Roslansky (CEO of LinkedIn) highlights the transformative impact of AI on work. It emphasizes how AI will gradually redefine work tasks, heighten the importance of skills, facilitate collaborative innovation, and reshape career paths. Ryan makes the point about the need for a "skills-first" mindset, focus on tasks AI can do or enhance, and identify tasks that require unique human skills. The article also stresses the role of soft skills in the AI era, enabling more human-centric work and collaboration. Thoughts?
As someone who has worked with customer feedback data, I’ve always been interested in improving the quality of the data collected.
One area that caught my attention was LinkedIn's newsfeed 📰
I noticed that fewer than 10% of all reactions to posts are non-like (they now have reactions for “Insightful”, “Support” and even “Love”). This makes me wonder whether the current responses are representative of the feedback members want to give and receive.
So I have to ask..... why do “Likes” receive “all the love”? (excuse the dad joke)
💡 Here are some of my thoughts:
- Lack of Awareness and Understanding: I suspect the average member may not be aware of the other reaction choices. Since these reactions are hidden and require hovering to see the options, it’s easy to over look them 😫
2) Power of Defaults and User Habits: Members want the easy way to quickly interact with content in their feed. They see posts all over their feed with high LIKE counts, and they too want to stick to the default option 👍
3) Social Norm and Conformity: There could be a social norm around using the “like” button as the primary form of interaction. Users might hesitate to stand out or be perceived differently if they use other reactions, leading to engagement conformity 😶
For creators, social media marketers, or anyone trying to grow an audience on LinkedIn, I assume it’s important to understand the feedback from their audience in a more nuanced way to continue creating the best content.
I’d love to hear your thoughts……or what your reaction is!
