What's the biggest growth opportunity for beauty brands moving forward? If you know me well, you won't be surprised that I flipped out at the answer TUAN TU gave me & you might even be able to guess what it is. Otherwise, you'll just have to watch this week's episode of Generation Influence to hear.

And no, he wasn't making things up to make his interviewer happy! Tuan's got experience at Coty, Revlon and Procter & Gamble (CoverGirl) so his beauty expertise is informed and based on data. Which also happens to be the sale pitch for his new consultancy, COVET BRANDING, LLC, through which he delivers fractional CMO services to the up and coming beauty brands looking to disrupt those big guys.

Listen in to learn his secrets (and yes influencer marketing is one of his go to tactics, but that's not the growth opportunity!) and observations on one of the most dynamic industries in the world.

See you on Generation Influence! https://lnkd.in/ej8Zpyau

Can't help it. Gotta' jump in on the Toys R Us AI video. All of the commentary I'm seeing is about what great technology it is, but a bad commercial with no hook or emotional resonance. I'd like to that on its head a bit and the only evidence I need is the first frame of the video (image below). The first thing we notice is a bunch of cars parked on the sidewalk in impossible angles, in a parking lot with no exit, a double car with two fronts and several other physical oddities. If we put this anywhere, it's on the technology that apparently couldn't be corrected despite a team of 15+ writing hundreds and hundreds of prompts.

But despite these errors, I'm instantly transported to depression era America, its challenges, its simplicity, its grit. I'm emotionally rooted into a time that I never experienced (despite what my children think) and then I'm carried forward on the hope and wonder of a child who wants to open up the world of play. Maybe I'm a sap but my experience watching the video was entirely emotional and transportive.

I'm not sure why others don't see this but I suspect it's because this is the part of AI that we are most afraid of: that something defined as artificial (ie - not natural) can make us feel emotions. We're only supposed to have an emotional response to natural things: other humans and their creations and nature itself. If AI can make us happy or cry - can make us emotionally vulnerable - do we become vulnerable in other ways as well?

Personally, I don't think so (subject to the same transparency guardrails that exist in today's world). I think AI's ability to transport us to other times and places will create new forms of empathy and understanding and it is actually one of the most powerful capabilities it has. How much would this set have cost to create IRL? A lot more than the very substantial amount of power it took to create the video that is for sure.

How about you? Did you feel anything watching the video? Was it positive, negative, resistant, optimistic?

Huge congrats to the team that took this on, I think it's amazing and my head has been spinning with ideas since I saw it. You can watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/e5ZCVdgs
