Today I’m thinking about my grandmother’s cousin, Stuart Fiander, who perished while aiding wounded soldiers during the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. The VFW Post at Hickam Field was, upon its founding, named in his honor. Today it bears a new name, but I reserve Memorial Day to remember his life, family and incredible sacrifice.
