People can spot sales pitches and promotional content a mile away.

Our ability to spot and ignore these messages these days is uncanny.

Cold emails LinkedIn posts LinkedIn InMail Webinars/presentation et cetera, et cetera, et cetera

But the best GTM pros learn how to stand out and get people's attention.

As someone who has led both marketing and sales development teams with success, I've learned a lot about how to stand out in the noise and grab attention.

Here's what I know works...

Offer value upfront without the expectation of something in return. This could be offering help with something you know they're working on.

92% of executives would pay attention to unsolicited messages, even if it is from a company they have never done business with, if that message contains ideas that might be relevant to their business (ITSMA).

Become an educational resource on things related to your niche. Your message will be welcomed and you will also build authority with your buyers.

Novelty can cause a pattern interrupt. Use things like analogies, relevant jokes, or interesting stories related to their business challenges. This also helps your message be more memorable.

You only have a split second to catch people's attention these days. Clarity and brevity are crucial.

Share your views on industry trends or controversial topics in your industry. And remember, standing against something is as powerful as standing for something.

Recently, my buddy Mark Kosoglow, one of the sharpest operators around, just told me he's starting a company to help the GTM team start conversations that convert, so I was immediately intrigued.

And I'll tell you that he knows 10x more than me about cold outreach since he helped shape the category nearly 10 years ago.

And it turns out that his core product philosophy aligns exactly with what I've learned about creating engaging content.

As a demand marketer, what kills your pipeline more than anything?

It's not a lack of creative campaigns.ย  It's not a lack of headcount. It's not a lack of budget.

The biggest thing that gets in the way of creating more pipeline is converting interest into demand.

It's an efficiency problem.

Here's what happens.

You spend a lot of time and resources creating content, buying ads, posting on LinkedIn, hosting events, writing blogs, driving traffic, etc. etc. etc.

A lead hits your MQLs criteria and your team (both marketing and outbound SDRs) targets that lead to try to convert into a meeting.

They book a meeting, the meeting is held with a rep, and the rep goes through the qualification process

However, step 2 is where most marketing budget and pipeline vanish.

Forever.

So, how can you improve your Demand Conversion?

Analyze and refine your lead scoring criteria to ensure only highly qualified leads are passed to sales, thus improving the likelihood of conversion.

This MUST be done in partnership with sales!

Use tools to automate as much of the manual process as possible.

For example, using tools to schedule meetings and follow-ups ensures no lead falls through the cracks.

Use advanced routing tools to ensure leads are directed to the most appropriate sales rep, based on product interest, geographic location, industry expertise or whatever makes the most sense for your organization.

Things like lead-to-account matching are critical here.

Make sure your sales team has the right tools, info and training to engage buyers in meaningful conversations.

And put SLAs in place to enforce best practices.

Monitor your conversion metrics and dive into the data to identify bottlenecks and funnel stages where leads are being stuck or lost.

This is how marketing teams can start doing more with the same resources they currently have.

I'm sure there are a million other things I missed.

What other ways can you convert more pipeline?
