Highlights
Wow, thank you to my friends at Puget Sound Business Journal and my community of mentors, mentees, colleagues and friends! PR folks aren’t used to being in front of the scenes, but I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give thanks to the relationships I’ve built across my professional and community career. It’s an honor to be recognized in the 40 Under 40 Class of 2023 and I’m really just excited to get a platform to talk about the incredible work being done at organizations like Slalom, Seattle Art Museum and Lakeside School.
If I do have a platform for one moment, I want to give big kudos to Marissa Nall for giving me the opportunity to speak a bit about the power I’ve found in wisdom. Over the years I’ve worked on innumerable PR crises, advised executives through acquisitions, legal and personnel controversies, tough interviews, brand campaigns, good purpose initiatives, etc. All great experiences.
I’ve seen opportunities bloom from traits I’ve learned and leaned into - intelligence, curiosity, aggressiveness, friendliness. All of these can add up to success, but I’ve grown to appreciate and seek the value of wisdom. Wisdom comes with experience. You can’t rush it, buy it or steal it. When you’re in a really tough spot, wisdom is the immutable ally that won’t let you down.
I don’t have all the wisdom yet, but over the years I’ve built a foundation - I’ve failed, I’ve met people, I’ve loved, I’ve achieved. I’ve come to understand wisdoms value, and learn about the responsibility to share it with others.
Here is a love letter to the invaluable wisdom that I’ve received from mentors and friends like Michael Parham, Amada Cruz, BERNIE NOE, Matt Griffin, Sheila Edwards Lange, Carla Lewis, Bridgette Taylor, Aileen Mae Aquino, Nicholas Stevens, Matt Allen, Dr. Constance W. Rice, Winnie Stratton, Michelle Grover, Natalie Angelillo, Ken Z., Priya Frank, Mark Klebanoff, Aaron Verzosa, Jalylah Burrell, Christopher Landman and of course Aimee Vaughan and Gregory Vaughan and many others.
I’m eternally grateful for your guidance. So, if you’ve got wisdom, PASS IT ON. Take on more mentors and mentees and exercise your responsibility to give and receive wisdom.
Oh and shoutout to my mentees Henry Kenney III, MPS, Lincoln Wilmore and Cameron Davis - you got next!
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Global Director of Public Relations at Slalom!
