I'm blessed to be able to work everyday in a variety of capacities for this project in this community.
Many have been texting me about how "lucky" I am. This is a longer journey than most realize. Since 2017 I have contributed to the project any way I could. Being a non-developer this was not always easy. I went into debt putting as much as I could into this project. I did so because I believed In the project, mission, and in the community.
In 2019 I had an opportunity to join another dedicated member in starting a company back before the pandemic (secretnodes.com which has become THE block explorer for the network In my absence). It was super cool to raise actual VC funds and start on a venture outside the normal 9-5. I left that company during COVID when the network was under a lot of stress due to a pending SEC settlement. At that time I was one of the leaders in resurrecting the project/community (side note...F you SEC).
I had to collect and find myself after traumatizing family events combined with COVID and dayjob stress. I worked with a life coach. I tried to undo years of validation seeking and mental trauma. To this day I vividly remember being told I was "too alternative" by an ex-girlfriend. It impacted me. I wanted to play small. I wanted to fit in. I did some hard reflecting to break patterns and be more comfortable taking risks and most importantly betting on and believing In myself.
I came back with new determination. I was fortunate enough to have help from the previous founder In learning new technical skills as a sysadmin running networking Infrastructure. As time went on I also found that non-technical skills in community building are actually quite important in decentralized networks. I carved out a niche in making some educational videos using my videography background combined with community growth. I again scrapped to find a role and cement reputation and continuing resurrecting the community.
With the help of one of my best longtime friends and brothers Nick Hagianis we now run WhisperNode (whispernode.com); a prominent validator on multiple blockchain networks, but most Importantly Secret Network.
This post is simply a reflection and a living diary of sorts. A testament to how persistence pays off, and how incredible grateful I am to all those that have helped make this dream a reality. I am brought back to the days of my FIJI fraternity at JHU as we memorized Calvin Coolidges famous words:
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
