"Floor it." The Subaru sales person said. So I did.

For a 22 year old adrenaline junky that feeling was the perfect way to sell me my first new car.

Out of a half dozen I talked to, he was probably the salesperson I liked the least. I found him abrasive and contentious. I enjoyed talking to other sales reps more. And yet I bought from him (…and 12 years on I still drive the same old Subaru WRX.)

Every other sales person told me about features and benefits. They asked what I was looking for in terms of bells and whistles. They qualified me and told me why their car was the best based on my needs.

They missed the emotional connection.

And according to a Harvard Business School study, 95% of purchase decisions are made on emotions and justified with logic.

Lots of folks in sales are closing out their year over the next couple of weeks, with big targets and expectations this December against a challenging economic backdrop.

I'd ask yourself in each of your deals - how are you connecting your prospect emotionally to the purchase? What's the moment in your sales process that makes them gasp and say "WOW, I need this!"

Make them feel something, then help justify their purchase with their needs and compelling business reasons to buy it now.

We are taking the opportunity today to say a HUGE #ThankYouRecruiting to our incredible partners on the HubSpot recruiting team. Growing fast means that we need to hire a ton of amazing talent day in and day out. I'm so grateful for everything our recruiters do everyday, and specifically want to share appreciation for Alisia Zhang, Kelsey Freedman (she/her), and Trevor Hiltz. Your work in making a highly positive interview experience for candidates, driving an inclusive interviewing process, and sourcing and recruiting great talent for our team is what makes success for the North America Partner Team at HubSpot possible.

As our recruiting lead for the partner team, Alisia Zhang not only hires great new employees, she helps us to improve the hiring process at all stages. Whether it's identifying trends in candidate feedback to improve their experience, finding top flight candidates from many different backgrounds, or focusing the team on skills and attributes based interviewing to make our process result in better hiring decisions, she guides us towards getting a little better every day.

So, #ThankYouRecruiting, today and every day, for helping HubSpot grow. Who’s a recruiter you’re grateful for? I'd love to hear from James Stone, Mae Joyce Kettler, and William O'Toole
