At the current rate of progress, the East Asia and Pacific region will achieve near universal access to at least basic drinking water and sanitation services by 2030. But major gaps remain in the accessibility, availability, and quality of these services. At current trends, only 76 per cent of the regional population will have access to safely managed sanitation services in 2030; efforts must increase 2.5-fold to achieve the SDG6 target of universal access to safely managed sanitation services by 2030.
