🌟Rethinking Empowerment: Celebrating Women Who Are Already "In Power"🌟

When we talk about "Empowering women," it often suggests that women need to be lifted up, that power is something to be granted. In fact, I've often used the phrase, "empowered women empower women". While this intention is noble and necessary, I’ve been reflecting on a different perspective: what about the women who are already "In Power"?

And what happens when we shift our focus from empowerment to recognising and celebrating women who are already fully in their power?💡

This change in language prompts a shift in mindset. Instead of viewing power as something women must acquire, we acknowledge that many women are already leading, innovating, and making impactful decisions. They are not just rising to the occasion—they’re setting the standard.

By recognising women who are "In Power", we: ✅Reframe the narrative: We see power not as something bestowed but as something owned. ✅Challenge assumptions: We question the idea that women need permission or external validation to lead. (Note: they do NOT!) ✅Inspire others: We show that power is not exclusive to a few but accessible to all who are ready to claim it.

How can we support this mindset shift? 👉 Acknowledge and amplify: Elevate the voices and successes of women in power. 👉Mentor and sponsor: Guide and support women as they navigate challenges and leadership roles. 👉Promote equal opportunities: Advocate for equitable access to leadership positions.

What examples are there of Women already "In Power": 🌟Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, known for her empathetic leadership and decisive action during crises. 🌟Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, leading one of the largest automotive companies in the world with a focus on innovation and sustainability. 🌟Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, breaking barriers as the first woman, first Black woman, and first Asian American woman to hold this office. 🌟Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, the first woman and the first African to lead the institution.

These women are just a few examples of those who are already fully in their power, leading with confidence, vision, and impact. By shifting our focus to celebrating women "In Power", we can reshape the narrative around leadership and inspire future generations to recognise that power is within their grasp, not something to be granted.

I'm going to start talking more about women "In Power". 🙋‍♀️ Let’s celebrate their achievements, their leadership, and their influence. Because when we see power as something intrinsic rather than granted, we open doors not just for a few but for all women to step into their full potential.

How might this shift in perspective change the way YOU support and recognise leadership?💫

Reflecting on an incredible last two days at the 50th Anniversary of the ONS Conference in Stavanger! 🌟 I’m incredibly proud of our team for showcasing Capgemini’s strong presence in both the conference and the broader Energy industry.

It was an immense honour to give a talk on the “3 Hard Truths about AI in the Energy Industry”:

🌐 AI is powerful and unstoppable, but it’s not a silver bullet – it requires the right data, infrastructure, and a clear strategy connected to the business bottom line to deliver value.

🌐 Data integration is crucial – horizontal thinking that breaks down silos is essential for unlocking AI’s full potential.

🌐 Human expertise remains irreplaceable – AI augments decision-making but doesn’t replace the need for human insight and experience and keeping the human in the loop.

On a personal note, reconnecting with my long-time friend Hilde Ringereide after years of working together at Shell, truly warmed my heart. 🩷

I was also thrilled to meet with nearly 200 energised Capgemini colleagues during a fireside chat, where we delved into strengthening client relationships, AI upskilling and adoption, the importance of diversity and inclusion, and authentic leadership. 🤩

A huge thank you to my dear colleagues, especially Eivind Gjesteland and Camilla Dybendal for orchestrating these past few days so seamlessly. I’m already looking forward to returning in September to continue this exciting journey together and create the future we want! 🙋🏼‍♀️💫
